Blues slide! All you need to play great slide guitar!
Slide guitar is one of the most soulful, heartfelt and emotive styles you can imagine. One lonesome note from Ry Cooder evokes the dusty desert with cacti standing tall and tumbleweed bowling by, while a stomping left foot and a crying vocal from Robert Johnson transports us straight to the Mississippi Delta. But slide is not all about wrenching the heart strings: it can be the meanest of sounds too. Think of a fi lthy George Thorogood and The Destroyers riff, or a scary Muddy Waters Chicago stomp.
Slide guitar does this and a whole lot more. Derek Trucks’ raga fl avoured Eastern licks for instance, or the staggering technical feats of Sonny Landreth or Joe Bonamassa. And what about the powerful tones and slithery licks of Jackson Browne’s ace in the hole, David Lindley?
Well, it’s all here at your fingertips. Jon Bishop is a fantastic teacher. He’s never less than smiling and enthusiastic and his knowledge is passed on in such a way that you’re bound to want to learn more. Now get sliding!
